Foodblog #2 - Pizzería Napoli

Today I would like to write about a restaurant we have been going to for a while. Not a new experience but a success time and time again. We have become regular customers and the waitress knows by heart which coffee and drinks we want after dinner.

I'm talking aboutPizzería Napoli in Verín , Spain. If you're in the Chaves / Cambedo area, Verín is definitely a place to visit. With its cozy and characteristic center, it makes way for a series of cafés and restaurants. One of these restaurants, in this case outside the center, is Pizzería Napoli. A very simply decorated pizzeria by Dutch standards, but with care and cozy. With the wooden tables and chairs covered with white checked tablecloths, you quickly imagine yourself in Italy. With photos on the wall of the Colosseum and the Ponte Sant 'Angelo, and of course pizza, that's not difficult either.

There is no shortage of Pizzerias on both the Portuguese and Spanish sides of this stretch of border (or surplus, for that matter). But within our family we agree that this is without a doubt the best.

The pizzas have, as befits a real Neapolitan pizza, a soft and thin base. They are generously topped but not over the top so that the simplicity of the pizza remains at the forefront. In the past months I have had the chance to try the different pizzas on the menu. To name a few:
The pizza Barbacoa with minced meat and bacon;
The Mafiosa with bacon, onion, gorgonzola and mushrooms;
The Pecorina with bacon, goat cheese and honey;
The Valiente with spicy chorizo and
The Vendetta with salami, pepperoni, onion and egg.

These are just a few options (the best in our opinion) but there is no bad pizza here. They are all fantastic, and there is even a vegetarian pizza. The Vendetta is the favorite of my father, brother and me.


Tip: order the Vendetta with anchovies. The saltiness of the anchovies goes really well with the pepperoni. That's how my father and I like it best.


Extra ingredients are also no problem; we have requested this on several occasions and have never been charged a surcharge for this.
Speaking of which, our meal typically consists of four pizzas (three large and one regular), two bottles of lambrusco , two ice teas, four meias de leite (coffee with milk), two limoncello, one aguardente (spirit) velha (aged) and one Licor de Café ( Aguardente with coffee). For all of this we pay between 60 and 70 euros… crazy huh? The downside is that there are no desserts available, but there is a pizza with nutella (if you still have room for it).

You can also go here for pasta. The pasta menu offers a choice of sauces and pasta types that you can put together according to your own taste. You can also choose a trio of Pasta 'Tris'. You will then get a fantastic trio of pasta with cream, pesto, and tomato sauce (salsa). It is also possible to take two types instead. Personally, I am especially fond of the pasta with cream and pesto, so I take a duo of these two. This is also no problem. After all, everything here revolves around making it to the customer's liking. I must warn you: if you choose this dish, be prepared for the gigantic portion that you will receive... And that is no exaggeration, the photo does not do the dish justice.

By the way, it is not a problem if you do not finish your pizza or pasta. For both, there is the possibility to take home what is left. They will probably ask for this themselves, but to be sure, you can indicate it afterwards.

We're not talking about the best pizza in Portugal here, and that's not necessary.
The (all-female) team works with only fresh ingredients and, above all, a lot of love.

This combination with the tiptop service and the extremely affordable dishes makes Pizzería Napoli the perfect location for us. One where we keep coming back every month, where we feel welcome!
