Travelling to/from and around Cambedo da Raia. Useful tips for your transport.
AUTO
If you come to spend your holiday with us, it is super handy to have a car at hand. You can of course travel to us with your own car, then you have a car at hand during your holiday.
The house with its garden and swimming pool, the climate, the incredible culture, cuisine and the many sights within a short distance ensure that you can easily spend 2 to 4 weeks of holiday in Cambedo in any season.
But the location at the gate of Portugal is also ideal for staying a few days at the beginning of your tour or one or two weeks after a city trip to Lisbon or Porto. There is always enough parking space at the house and all amenities are within a fifteen minute drive by car.
AEROPLANE
Most guests arrive by plane. If you are only coming to us, it is best to fly to Porto. Guests from Spain can also fly to Vigo, which is even closer in terms of driving distance and toll-free. You can rent a car in both Porto and Vigo.
If you want to spend a few days in Lisbon first, you can also rent a car there and return it in Porto.

From Schiphol
From Schiphol you can fly to Porto with 3 airlines: TAP, KLM and Transavia. With all 3 airlines you can book a rental car at Porto with a discount. Below you will find the links to the websites to book.
TAP - Air Portugal flies a few days a week via Lisbon to Porto. Short transfer times and Lisbon is a manageable airport. Often attractive rates and the possibility to rent a car with a discount.
KLM - KLM flies several times a day directly to and from Porto. Fares vary greatly, sometimes they are the cheapest, sometimes more than 3-4 times as expensive. Possibility to rent a car with a discount.
Transavia - Depending on the season, Transavia flies several times a week/day directly to and from Porto. Fares are often the lowest, sometimes a bit higher. Possibility to rent a car with a discount (Hertz).
From Eindhoven, Maastricht and Düsseldorf Weeze
From these three airports you can fly directly to Porto. Often in the season, less in the off-season. Prices fluctuate strongly, from 49 to 1349 euros. You can rent a car with a discount, but watch out for the many shady rental companies that this club offers. It costs something, but then you have nothing 😂.
Car rental
All rental cars in Portugal have a token for using the toll roads. Every rental company will try to sell you extra insurance and excess waiver. Check the terms and conditions of your credit card and travel insurance, sometimes that coverage is already included...
To be able to use a Portuguese car in Spain you often have to pay a few tens of euros extra. Given the location of Cambedo on the Spanish border, this is recommended. It gives you a lot more freedom and refueling in Spain is much cheaper!
If you come to us in another way (train, bus or walking) you can also rent a car here at Hertz (in Chaves) and return it in Porto, Lisbon or Faro.
