Travelling to/from and around Cambedo da Raia. Useful tips for your transport.
AUTO
If you're spending your holiday with us, it's very useful to have a car at hand. You can, of course, travel to us with your own car, so you'll have a car at your disposal throughout your holiday.
The house with its garden and pool, the climate, the incredible culture, cuisine and the many sights within easy reach ensure that you can easily spend 2 to 4 weeks of holiday in Cambedo at any time of the year.
But its location at the gateway to Portugal also lends itself perfectly to a few days' stay at the beginning of your tour or a week or two after a city break in Lisbon or Porto. There's always ample parking at the house, and all amenities are within a fifteen-minute drive.
AEROPLANE
Most guests arrive by plane. If you're just coming to us, it's best to fly into Porto. Guests from Spain can also fly into Vigo, which is a bit closer in terms of driving distance and toll-free. Car rentals are available in both Porto and Vigo.
If you want to spend a few days in Lisbon first, you can also rent a car there and return it in Porto.

From Schiphol
From Schiphol Airport, you can fly to Porto with three airlines: TAP, KLM, and Transavia. All three airlines offer discounted car rentals in Porto. Below are links to the websites where you can book.
TAP - Air Portugal flies to Porto via Lisbon several days a week. Transfer times are short, and Lisbon is a convenient airport. They often offer attractive fares and discounted car rentals.
KLM - KLM flies direct to and from Porto several times a day. Fares vary widely, sometimes being the cheapest, sometimes more than three or four times as expensive. Discounted car rentals are available.
Transavia - Depending on the season, Transavia flies directly to and from Porto several times a week or daily. Fares are often the lowest, but occasionally a bit higher. Discounted car rentals are available (with Hertz).
From Eindhoven, Maastricht and Düsseldorf Weeze
You can fly directly to Porto from these three airports. Frequently during peak season, less frequently during the off-season. Prices fluctuate widely, ranging from €49 to €1349. You can rent a car at a discount, but beware of the many shady rental companies this group offers. It's a bit pricey, but you get nothing in return 😂.
Car rental
All rental cars in Portugal come with a token for using the toll roads. Every rental company will try to sell you extra insurance and excess waivers. Check the terms and conditions of your credit card and travel insurance policy carefully; sometimes this coverage is already included.
To use a Portuguese car in Spain, you often have to pay a few tens of euros extra. Given Cambedo's location on the Spanish border, this is recommended. It gives you a lot more freedom, and fueling up in Spain is much cheaper!
If you come to us by another means (train, bus or walking) you can also rent a car here at Hertz (in Chaves) and return it in Porto, Lisbon or Faro.
This also applies to all other places where you rent a car. This way, you can flexibly plan a tour of Portugal and enjoy a week (or two 😉) at our beautiful Quinta.

Our guests have had good experiences with Centauro and Sunnycars . They are both located in Porto near the airport, have reasonable prices, and don't charge extra fees for driving in Spain, an additional driver, or large deductibles.
Please take your arrival and departure times into account in connection with the opening hours of the car rental companies.
