At the estate of Viva sua Vida in northern Portugal, we have a new electronic telescope that allows guests to discover the impressive starry sky on clear evenings. Thanks to the dark skies in this region, stargazing here is a special experience that you can hardly find in many parts of Europe anymore.
A perfect place for stargazing in Portugal
Our adega is located in the peaceful village of Cambedo da Raia, in the nature-rich region of Alto Tâmega. This area is known for its vast nature, little development, and very limited light pollution. As a result, it is an excellent location for astronomy and stargazing in Portugal.
When the sun sets and the air becomes completely dark, an impressive starry sky appears. On clear nights, you can even see the band of the Milky Way with the naked eye.
Viewing deep-sky objects with a modern telescope
Our new electronic telescope automatically helps in finding celestial objects. Thanks to this, we can view impressive deep-sky objects without extensive astronomical knowledge.
During our stargazing evenings, we aim the telescope at:
- the Andromeda Galaxy, a galaxy about 2.5 million light-years away
- the beautiful Orion Nebula, where new stars are born
- the famous Pleiades star cluster
- and when visible: the rings of Saturn or the cloud bands of Jupiter
These are objects located at immense distances in the universe, but thanks to our telescope, they become clearly visible.
